A few mods to the porty questions....

I plan on doing some mods to the porty I bought last year (Eskimo Quickflip 2) some of them include putting in like rope light style (found on e b a y for cheap) wondering what size gauge wire I should use for all that. Along with that for a battery. Does anyone know the difference between the batteries AH's? Seems like the lower they are the cheaper they are but what does it actually mean?

Second would be I would like to do some Reflectix on the side. I have seem different things about this my house is about 56 inches wide but see that most people go with the 48" wide product would the few extra inches matter any? I plan on doing it on the top and the back of the porty. Also wondering how well does this stuff fold down with the other canvas that’s the fish house is made out of. Is it pretty firm I have now bought it yet but I have seen that places like mens store or the old fleet has it.

Also I have bought some of the hyfax runner for this series of fish houses and I started to look at the instructions a bit and it says that you’re supposed to put them in boiling water to make the shape of the sled? Then I went a watched a video which was an installation of an Otter House and they just put them on and bent them and screwed them down. Let me know if you have installed these on this kind of a sled.

I know this is a lot of information that I am seeking but I would very much appreciate all the help you guys can provide. I will post pictures when I get to this point but want to get everything ordered and then get out there and get this thing ready to do some serious ice fishing this winter!!!!

Tiny wire, 18 to 22 gauge will be fine.

The higher the Ah's the longer the battery will last if you are using the same amp draw.

My house is also around 56" wide, and I have a strip of 48" centered. Works great, and don't sweat the missing edges.

It folds pretty nice, but will add some bulk to the canvas, and it will fill up the tub more than if you didn't have it in there. Duct tape the cut areas (holes for velcro straps) so it doesn't tear.

No input on the hyfax, my sled had it mounted already.

I have the reflectix on my voyeager. It folds down real nice. I bought the roll and the roll of tape and cut it to fit the top. been up for at least two years and looks like new still. A little trick I learned with my hyfax was to use a heat gut when trying to get them to bend. works great. Wearing a glove helps.

Would tin tape work? Its used on Ductwork and what not. I know it will will hold at that but not sure about this stuff.... And not sure if the duct tape would be more rugged and withstand more abuse that this would be getting..

Last year I put reflectix in my Quickflip 2. I just cut slots in the reflectix where the straps for the poles are. I then taped the areas I cut with duct tape. So far the staps and slots are holding up fine.

I also bought the 24" wide reflectix and taped that together to get to the width of the house. One roll was plenty to do the entire roof.

McGurk,

Lets talk Batteries what would the standard ah's be on a vexilar battery seems like there is a large price jump from 8 to 9 ah's.... Just wondering about how long those last. I do not have a vexilar but I know that one battery could last a good weekend of fishing. Would lights be the same thing? I plan on running 3 rope lights.... Obviously wouldnt be all day...

Anyone else knows feel free to let me know

Thanks Guys

Well I'll say this- I would feel a whole lot better spending the same money on 3) 7 Ah batts than 2) 9 Ah batts. Just sayin. I rarely go without a backup, so I just get the smaller ones. I feel better running a 7 down to nothing with another to boot, than risking a day with a single 9. Results may vary so much with different LED strips and flasher use and the batteries themselves that it is hard to give firm numbers on results.

I purchased a 12V 12ah battery that I use in the kids Power Wheels during the Summer and for my LED lights in the Winter. The 12ah battery is a larger battery, so it wouldn't fit in a Vex case, but the thing lasts forever.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
