Again, not looking for spots, but im jsut curious if anyone around this area spears, and if so, can point me in the right direction to some clear lakes. I have spent all my time this summer on the river, so havent been out on any lakes north or south of st. cloud.

Thanks again.

Taking a quick look at LakeFinder it looks like the Spunk lakes are fairly clear (secci disk of 8-9 ft.) and Big Watab (secci disk of 12 ft.) and I am sure they clear up more in the winter. There is a pretty small average size out of Big Watab, but I bet there are a few really nice ones that feed on the stocked trout.

Pleasant Lake in Rockville sees alot of spear houses, a guy can usually see bottom in 8-10 FOW. Small-Medium size though. Horseshoe on the chain gets surprisingly clear. 12 FOW and you can still see the bluegills swimming. I would imagine size is better being such a large bowl of water.

when i went to school up there i didnt spear but ice fished a ton, Grand was a lake lots of people spear, pearl wasnt bad either if you can sit right outside the weed beds or on top of one i did very well angling pike there, clearwater was a good choice to. School section was a decent lake and its just a big bowl not very deep.

Grew up on Pearl. Speared it exclusively in my youth. More recently it has not been very clear, but when it is the action is intense, just a lot of youngin's. Some nice fish in there to be sure. Just got special reg'd a few years ago. I am hoping this is one that they take off of the list.

Grand is usually clear but really gets a lot of pressure for a small lake. Clearwater is awesome as far as clarity goes and you can see a lot of fish, just not a lot of pike sometimes. I'm sure there are some good spots out there just haven't found them yet. Usually give it several tries each season.

If Pelican by buffalo is clear you really can't beat it.

You just made me double check.....interesting side note is that in the six or so years of the slot there has not been any improvement on the size structure, if anything it has gotten a little worse. Looks like they are going to let it go four more years. You need about 750 large to reside out there and all those pesky little pike are not playing nice for the rich folk walleye's stocking program smile

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
