Need some expertise

So I made the trip down to Marshall and bit the bullet and bought a 6.5 x 12 Yetti. It has some hail damage to the siding and I got it for $4250. There is so much I need to learn, anyone else out there have a Yetti? Where does one put there propane taks, it doesn't seem like there is room on the tongue for a tank holder. I have a friend who is going to do the wiring, and I have lined up a guy to install my furnace. I really need some help with the interior ideas, I really want to keep it as light as possible. Not planning on having a bathroom in the V, maybe a countertop with a cook top. I thought I might try to figure out a layout for sleeping 3, I would like 4 but I think I am pushing it. Any and all ideas would be appreciated.

Congradulations on the Wheelhouse! Looks to be a very nice one! The ice is coming you should get building it! I am not an expert but one guy I go out with has about the same size. Talking about the mounging of the propane tanks. They can go on the outside of the house (obviously) and mount them to the angled area of the V front works out great. There not hard to install and have covers for them as well. Let me know if you need help finding one and I can help. Im sure most RV places would carry something along these lines.

Congrats on the house!

I would do like the other guys said, fold up in the back with a hinged bunk above. For your tanks I would mount on the V. Then if u will run a battery(ies) put it under the back bed to counter balance the tanks.

Yep, that was me. The day of the storm.

Hey lamb,

Did you stop by Appeldoorns last week?

Looked like the new Yetti by the office.

We were playing carpet ball at the time.

PS, congrats on the fishhouse!

After two weeks of excitement I think I finally know how I want to layout and finish the yellow beast. I was thinking of opting for bead board paneling, but after shopping around I am leaning more towards knotty pine or cedar. I can't picture handling those sheets of paneling by myself, and the tongue and groove would be easier for me to handle. Now I am just waiting to connect with my friend who will be doing the electrical, he is in southern Mn and I am in northern. A lot more to finishing these babies than I originally thought, but I love a challenge. Once I get started I will start posting pictures. I have gotten a lot of good ideas from the other builds I have seen on here. What a valuable HSOforum.

Nice looking shack. Kind of off the topic but I just bought a new to me used fish house and was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on setting one up. As far as blocking it and what you do as far as drilling holes. I thought I read somewhere about drilling holes, moving house cleaning holes then moving it back over then putting snow around it or just put it where you want it and get to it. Any info would be great.

4 would be very tight in a house this size house. 3 would be comfortable. I would get a double propane tank holder from a camping store and get it added on the front V my suggestion would be also to get a tank cover to protect your tanks from road grim just got one for my Lodge. Personally I would look at some of Lodges floor plans on their HSOforum to help aid in your layout. I have one and my opinion it is the best laid out house. The heater put in the V house in a cabinate and the put cabinates in the V leave most of the house open except for your bunks or whatever your going to sleep on. Paneling would probably save quite a bit of weight if you are concerned about it unless you are looking at some thin tongue and groove. Norm's suggestion is exactly what I do for my 6.5 X 14 for sleeping arrangements and 3 of us were very comfortable.

Buy and 12" extension for your auger leave the house cranked up and drill your hole before you drop it. This keeps all the ice chips under the house and out of your shack. If you try pulling ahead and back back up your will never get it right. As far as blocking I always put 4X4 blocks under it if there is alot of snow load on the ice. If there is no snow 2X4 should be good and if it is a 1 day trip you can get away with dropping it right on the ice.

I was just checking that tongue and groove out. The save big money store has 5/16" and The HD store has 1/4" thick. They are within .38 cents of each other. The HD is the 8" type with the groove to look like two 4 inch pieces. The other store is the actual 4".

The 8" boards would be a lttle less labor.

Last year at Lake Of The Woods in late January I pulled into Morris Point they had little plowed trails off the main trail to pull into with banks of snow 2-3' tall. I drilled the hole and water started coming up and by the time it quit then next day I had ice froze 1/2 way up the side wall on my truck tires about 4" I'd have been screwed if my house wasn't blocked up. Only bad thing is that it takes alot more snow to bank the house.

I did know they made it that thin. At those dimensions it would weight very similar to paneling.

Thats really nice. Congrats on the new fish house. Looks like its gonna be a awesome project!

I had a 6x12 and had the bunks on the end (fold up ones). A couple times I had 4 sleepers in it (2 on cots) and it was pretty tight. 3 was perfect though and just having a cot for the 3rd bed worked great.

I have finally decided on a layout, the furnace would be on the sidewall under the window, could be either wall. The front V will have a counter with cook top, a cabinet and shelves above. the dotted lines in the front and the sides are possible cot locations. The back wall will have a split bunk with storage under each seat and a drop down bunk above. I may put a cabinet or two above the window area for storage also. The one idea I have come up with is a rod across the front where the dotted line is at ceiling height with a curtain that can be pull back to the wall. This will provide privacy for the porta potty when it is co-ed or for changing clothes. The bucket can then be set outside at night.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
