Rainy Lake: Which chip for my Humminbird? Nav or Lake Master?

Moose-Hunter

Question

Which chip is best for fishing Rainy Lake specifically. LakeMaster or Navionics?

If the chip just happens to have more lakes on it... fine. BUT... Having the most accurate for Rainy is #1 priority.

PerchJerker? What do you think?

I haven't been on Rainy but I've got some buddies that go up there with the LM LOTW/Rainy card and they say it's outstanding. That's the way I would go ........

The depth highlighting and offsetting functions using the LakeMaster chip in a 'Bird are outstanding. I love it to the point that I think people get sick of listening to me talk about them. But I don't care. grin

Thanks all!!

I have a LM chip lined up. As soon as the funds become available, all it'll take is a phone call. I'd have the chip close to my grubby lil' paws already if it weren't for this mornings mail! I hate those kinds of surprises!! mad

Anywho... Thanks again!!

No! The Lakemaster is still the best, most detailed Chip for Rainy. It has much more on it than my Navionics. I just find the contours hard to read when you zoom in. Its not a deal breaker, I have just learned to only zoom in real tight when absolutely needed. You will get the hang of it.

Northlander, do you find it busy when zoomed in to the same scale on other lakes? I've never really had any issue, but I've never looked real hard at Rainy.

I will say that the 1' contours can get pretty dense sometimes, but I just see that as a good indicator that there's inspection-worthy structure there. My dad had some trouble with this when I first got my unit (the depth contour lines basically becoming a shaded area) but he caught on quickly when I told him a "black bar" wasn't necessarily anything to worry about. Basically, it was just a misunderstanding...

Ya its no matter where I go. "Dense" is a very good word for it when zoomed in. Its even worse on my H2Oc. I use my Navionics more in my H2Oc just for that reason. I very rarely need 1' Contours but its nice at certain times. I will say the LM Chip has much more detail than my Navionics when Im on Rainy and Vermillion.
