I think the Cubs need to send Sammy on his way! The guy is no team player at all. I watch alot of guys take walks but not Sammy. I can't even count how many times I've see him swing on a 3-0 count at anything close. You would have to throw the ball out of the Stadium before he wouldn't swing at it. The Cubs need to trade him for a left handed bat and or a Closer.

He hurts them more then he helps them. But I guess he puts people in the stands why I don't know but he does.

I agree with you on Sammy needing to take more pitches. He whiffs way to much. But I have never seen him swing on 3-0 and I have watched almost every Cubs game televised this year. That said I don't remember him getting to a 3-0 all year cause ya he swings at garbage. Whatever.

More importantly I want to say that Sammy doesn't put people in the stands for the Cubs. Wrigley Field and the neighborhood does. Of course right now its a sellout because they are doing well but it has been a long time since attendance was low at Wrigley. Have you ever been to Wrigley? It is quite an experience. I would recommend any baseball fan to go just to experience Wrigley and the surrounding neighborhood. Besides Cub fans are just that loyal that they show up even when the team stinks--regardless if its right or wrong they show up. It's just a great place to be.

People put too much emphasis on Sammy. Maybe it's because they think he is the Cubs "franchise" player. Most Cubs fans want to see him go. That is why he has been getting booed lately. Maybe they'll can him and use the money to resign Nomahhhh next year.

All those home runs Sosa hits is a sad commentary on the state of pitchng in the bigs. This is a guy who could strike out 200 times a season if the pitchers woke up and smelled the coffee. Sammy isn't the exception either. Watch most of these guys when they get ahead in the count. They become world class fishermen. They'll swing at anything because they're looking fastball, fastball, fastball. Doesn't matter where it is, they'll swing. If I were a major league pitcher I'd intentionally get behind 2-0 so I could throw something soft and away for an easy out.

I was at Wigley for the Cubs/Phillies on July 30th good game to watch 8 hrs hit Cubs won 10-7. You are right it is a great place to see a game 4th time I've been. It was my son's 10th birthday. We went in 2hrs early to try to get some autographs for him and stayed till every playing had left. Not one player signing anything I thought that was really crappy. I can see if it's a late night game and the players want to get home. This was a 2:20 afternoon game so it wouldn't have hurt them to sign a few autographs for 10-15 minutes. Are the Twins like that also?

We went to the Royals and Gaints in KC last yr. I watched Bonds sign for a good 15-20 minutes after he took batting pratice. I thought that was great!!

As far as resigning Sammy goes. I would take his sallary and resign Rameriz and Nomer to lengthy contracts.

I was told once that they do not sign autographs at the park, not because they don't want to, but because they cant. Something in the labor agreement that frowns upon it or makes it against the rules. I guess the union thinks it would devalue autograph itself if the fan did not pay for it. Crappy? yes.

I like Torii but was a bit disappointed with him over the last week or so because of leaving so many runners on base. A lot of pop-ups. Think his swing is off just a little. However, his base-stealing abilities are mind-blowing. I can't recall anyone getting such a good jump that they could almost walk into 2nd base. Maybe he's a lucky gambler and it'll catch up with him??

Speaking about your swing being off a little, it certainly looks like Koskie got his straightened out. Hitting the ball all over the place. He's a streak hitter and can really rack up some impressive numbers when he's on.

Another fine performance by Santana tonight!
George S. will be looking for his checkbook when this series is done.

Go Twins!!!!

It's a TEAM game and every player is important BUT sure am glad that Sammy was there last night to make that catch...a real game saver that just might be looked back at as one of those important plays that got the Cubs in. We'll see in a few weeks.

Ford's going to be a backup. This may be the best year he has, but he's a very good 4th outfielder who can play a lot & still be quite productive. If JJ goes, which I hope he won't, but am prepared for, Kubel will be the guy, at least eventually. I'm not saying that he & Ford might not platoon most of next year.
