Auger problems

I'm having problems starting my Eskimo auger, it's only a couple of years old and hasn't been run that much. The problem I'm having is, it won't start. I've taken the cover plate off the carberator and gave it a squirt of starting fluid, it starts on the first pull but won't conyinue to run. There's plenty of gas and the tank isn't pulled because I took the gas line off and the gas comes out without a problem. Anyone have any suggestions? HELP!!!!!

Just a couple quick, easy suggestions that you may or may not have tried already. First, make sure you have fresh gas. If you are trying to run it on last years gas, it's probably pretty stale.

Another possible easy fix is to change the spark plug. Should only cost a couple of bucks, but I've found that it helps...

It's got new gas and a new plug, and like I said it starts great with a little squirt of starter fluid, it just won't stay running.

Sounds like the needle/seats need cleaning. Gas isn't getting from taqnk to carb. good luck.

Spray the begeezus out of the carb with some carb cleaner. Sounds like a stuck needle valve/gummed up carb. The next step if that doesn't work would be to put a carb kit in it.

Be very careful use either on a two cycle motor there isn't any lubrication going on there you'll need more than a carb kit!

I got it going last night, I screwed the needle valves in all the way and then back to their original position (hoping to break up any varnishing) closed the choke and it started on the 3rd pull. Thanks for the help everyone.

try using sea-foam in the gas. I use some sea-foam in the first tank of gas every season to clean up the carb and again in the spring when i run the gas out. That would be the other thing i would ask you, if you left gas in it then the carb would be plugged for sure. good luck!><>

I use premium gas in all my engines. It doesn't cost much more than regular for small engines like augers, and the stronger detergents in premium keep carburetors clean. Seventh year on the Strikemaster XL-3000 I've got (Tecumseh motor, of course), never a hint of trouble. YOu also might want to make sure you aren't mixing the fuel/oil mixture richer than is called for. Too much oil can gum things up.
