Just a heads up here fellas, there are 137 Pro boaters registered and they need 4 Co-anglers to match everyone up. This is a great way to learn from the pros, to learn Green Bay and to check off a bucket list body of water.

Entry fee is $350 and payout goes past 60 places. This is more than a 100% payout tournament.

Check it out but hurry, the rules meeting is on Wednesday of next week.

What a difference a year makes! Previous years you had to be registered as early as you could be, and have a pro counterpart registration to guarantee your entry. This year they are looking for Co-Anglers! Awesome opportunity folks.

I'll be fishing as a Co-Angler in this one as well and an open water, planer board, crawler harness or crankbait bite should be the name of the game. Good opportunity to brush up on some big water trolling techniques.

See you out there John!

Good luck, Chris. I'm wishing you a good time and a 2nd place finish. I've got a good friend that's also a "co". Wishing him 1st. Kind of a roll-of-the-dice for you guys mostly, but sure would be a great experience.

137 boats!! That would be an experience just hanging out waiting to shoot-out. Someday.....definately a "bucket-list" experience for me. Have fun!!

From the reports I'm seeing this should be a great event. If you guys have ever wondered if tournament fishing is for you, don't think about it to long or the opertunity will probably be gone. Crawlers, boards, multiple lines, cranks and 30" eyes, what can be better than that.

Good luck Chris, see you out there!

Theoretically speaking. I fish walleye, but not often. Would being a co be something for me? I have knowledge of tactics and can fish them all except downrigging. Or is being a co something more for aspiring pros. I would love to do something like this in the future. I do not want to be a burden or hindrance to the pro though.

Having not done it myself, but knowing a few that have, you DO NOT have to be an aspiring pro to fish as a "co." A good buddy of mine is proof of that. He's been doing it for years, and hardly fishes when not doing the tour. He's learned over the years the in's and out's, but definately was a "greenhorn" walleye angler when he started. I've learned alot from him, and hope to actually be able to do it in the near future. Go for it!!!

I just would love the experience. I could care less about winning money. But I can't imagine how fun it would be to fish in a field of 100 some boats on big water like that.

Well... I think you gotta do it then! There is one tourney left after Green Bay this year and that is Lake Oahe out of Pierre, SD. Could be a chance they are still looking for more co-anglers out there as well! Otherwise we'll all be waiting anxiously to see the tourney schedule for next year.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread here but these photos were from the Championship in Bismarck, ND 2 years ago. This may have been one of the most unbelievable experiences of my life and looking at these photos again, I remember it like it was yesterday. That ought to fire a guy up!! Plus there is a whole day of fishing wrapped up in this but they really do put on a show!

I'm 4th from the left, made the top 10 at the Championship!

And I'm fishing with Tommy Skarlis for the day!

Weigh-in was inside the Bismarck Civic Center. Big Crowd, TV Cameras, was flippin' nuts!

Thats Charlie Evans from the Bass side of FLW doing the announcing.

I didn't realize how lucky I got during that tournament, but 2 years later and another 6 tournies or so and haven't come close to finishing that well again.

Dang it... now I just fired myself up and I'm not leaving for Green Bay for another day.

Chris brings up some great points. It's a great way to learn new water and techniques. So far this year we have been to Lake Erie and Leech Lake, leaving for Green Bay tomorrow morning and Lake Oahe is in October. The top 40 will advance to the finals in Bismark in September.

If a guy is just looking to do 1 a year or so the AIM circuit might be easier to get into. Both the AIM and FLW are great oppertunities for co anglers to learn from the best. I have fished with some of the best ever and have learned something from everyone I have fished with.

It's a pretty close knit group of guys and lots of fun. This year Chris Hanson, myself and my travel partner meet both before and after each event, have a few beers and talk about what we learned and expect to learn.

It's not cheap ($350 plus a couple days off and expenses) but the education is priceless, and if you are competitive it's just gets better. Words cannot discribe the feeling of the takeoff in the morning. laugh

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
