Good fishing lakes for small boat

Recommended Posts

Jake if you do come up here soon let me know in a PM. since you have to travel a long distance i can shorten your search for you. there are many lakes that you are looking for up in the arrowhead. just not enough time, even for guys like me that would like to be there every day. keep in mind the beauty of the area is worth it alone. good luck.

Sea Gull and Saganaga Lakes would be good...10 and 25 HP limits on those lakes. Also Devil Track, Two Island, and Crescent Lakes. All these lakes are in the Grand Marais area. All are great walleye/bass lakes. You'll also find plenty of good lakes inbetween all these places too.

A great area with a lot of lakes that fit the bill would be the Grand Rapids/Deer River area. Between the lakes and the Mississippi river you will not have enough time to fish them all. There are lakes bigger than 1000 acres but don't let that stop you. When I started fishing the area I had a 14' with a 18hp motor and did just fine. You can also hit Cut Foot and in the spring right out in front of Highbanks on Winni is great fishing a block from shore.

Kabetogama has a ton of islands and bays to get out of wind, fishing for walleye and smallmouth is some of the best in the state. I saw a guy out fishing in a kayak between Sugarbush and Cutover Islands this morning. The walleyes were hungry this morning!
