CC to Horsepower conversion?

Recommended Posts

Im asking this because im looking at getting ahead of the game and buying a snowblower now. Several folks have told me I should have at least a 7 or 8 HP minimum for throwing deep snow. Now looking at some newer used machines, they are all rated in CC's.... whats the conversion? About how many horse would a 208cc blower be?

Thank you!

about 6.5 hp at 3600 rpm depending on torque, stroke, and other items. Better if we knew the model of the engine and other info. a bit nicer tone in the question might get more info also. also google is amazing.

Thanks Jeffrey! I tried to google it but like Lightning said, it sounded like a hundred different possibilities....??? No real conversion. I guess I was hoping somebody may know something specifically about snowblower engines and how they may square up.

I appreciate the help from both of you! Thank you!

There is no way to convert CCs to HP. Every engine is different. You would be better off looking up the manufacturer specs before buying. If they don't have torque or HP rating marked on the engine, I wouldn't buy it because it is probably a cheap Chinese knockoff engine.

I agree with the frustration. When I upgraded snowblowers from my 5HP to something bigger the manufacturers do not state the engine in HP but rather cc's now. I bought an Ariens Deluxe 27 2 years ago and this last years model is the Deluxe 28. Defintaly is a lot bigger than the 5HP.

There is no conversion from HP to CC's but I would guess this engine is more than 8HP based on an older Ariens 8HP snowblower as a comparison. My Deluxe 27 is listed as 249 CC's. My siste-in-law has an Ariens 10 HP snowblower and my snowblower does not have quite that much power. I would guess my 249cc engine would be comparable to 8-9 HP based on my experience. So the 209 would be 5-7HP IMO.

I would not want to go any lower than the 249cc on my Ariens. Like I said, I went from a 5HP to 249cc and there is no comparison. I would not want anything smaller for the deep/slushy snow.

They stopped putting HP numbers on small engines primarily because most (especially the cheapos) over-rated the power output and were sued. EX:lawnmowers who were rated at 6HP were really only 3-4 HP.

Unfortunately unless the manufacturer specifically rates it in the specs, not really a way to figure it out. A few do still though, I believe Craftsman and Toro both do.
