Professional Bear Guide Bait

Recommended Posts

Not trying to start something and not really looking for any super secrets but what do the Northern Minnesota Bear guides use for Bear Bait. There "go to" bait. I have ran into 2 different professional guides in my bear hunting career and they both had what appeared to be a "grain" mash recipe of some sort. If you hunted with a guide, what was their main bait? Thanks

Not a guide myself but a grain mash mixture will probbaley be made up of oats an craked corn mixed with molassass an sugar maybe some milk or even dog food. Yu can get quite creative with it to by adding candy or chocolate syrup. Feed stores have horse feed which is a mixture of much of wat i listed abouve, Ive used it with successs, but its costly, they might have broken bags for a discount. There are some guys here that will take oats an water an suger an let it ferment in the sun an swear by it. A grain mash mix will very per user so ya might get quite a few recipies. Good luck. Oh yea, you can get the oats an corn an molassass at grain elevator pretty cheap. Boar

This year mine runs me about $150 for a 1000 lbs bagged. This is $35 higher than last year. I have them put in around 100 lbs of molasses, and a mix of cracked corn and oats. They started selling a mix with a berry flavor that smelled awesome, but I never did order any as my first 1000 pounds lasted all season with a little to spare!

I have been told buying the human molasses makes it sweeter(mill stuff tastes salty), but will cost a lot more.

I like to throw in a 50 lbs sack or 2 of sunflower nuts, or the big bags of stale peanuts as well if I remember to bring it with to the mill, they will dump it in the mixer for me.
