pool chemistry

Question

Pool filled with well water. Got a sand filter and got most of the metals out. Water still not clear. According to the test strips, my ph is high. I've added several pounds of ph minus, and its still high. any other ideas? Hate to keep adding that stuff of I'm doing something else wrong! Should also mention, I'm running the saltwater system. Thanks for any advice. This pool will be clear if its the last thing I do!

It's been years since I had a pool but if you're pH is high so is your alkalinity. What is your pH? Alkalinity? You have to get these in balance. I used to use acid to conrol pH and alkalinity. Not sure how big your pool is but for a 24' above ground pool, I would dribble several drops of acid into the pool on all four sides. I did this AFTER my pH was in the proper range. The "dribbling" (very small amount) of acid would be enough to lower the alkalinity but not the pH.

If all else fails, take a sample to a pool store and have them test it.

Ryan, I have well water as well. For the past 2 seasons I have filled it with water from a faucet from the house. After 1 month of fighting well water to turn clear...I said BLAH!

However! My friend has his pool set up with well water, a salt water pump he said...added like 8 bags of salt and whamo.
