Boxcar Wllie
I have ant mounds all over my yard. Any recommendations on how to get rid of them?
B. Amish
get thicker grass.i've had ants in my yard since i moved in. i've tried the various poisons, but they eventually come back because my yard is sandy and premier ant habitat. its pretty obvious that the areas that don't have any ants also has thicker healthier grass. Boxcar Wllie
Quote: get thicker grass. Spot-on. Just the suggestion I was looking for. Thing is that the mounds are on some of the thickest grass that I have. What were some of the chemicals that you used to rid the ants till they came back? hotrod1
I have used a number of Incecticides to control ants. They all seem to work but ants seem to come back after a few weeks or so. The key is to rotate products with differant active ingrediants. Some products that I have sprayed for ants are Bifen IT(bifenthrin), Malathion, Meridian. and others but cant remember names. I have also used a granular I think it was Ortho Max and that seemed to work ok.It can be expensive to control ants. Just remember not to use the same product each time...ants can grow resistant to Insecticides.Good luck
crothmeier
I used some white terro powder, that seemed to work for me, however they come back the next year, but I sprinkle it again the next spring and it takes care of them for the rest of the summer. Grainbelt
The guy that trimmed my tree said to use dish soapy water poured over the ant mound. I haven't tried it yet.
