oleballcoach
Guys, curious about what size and types of hooks you might change the trebles on a crankbait to. I have always used the factory hooks and wondering if this would help while ripping a bait through the weeds. Any helpful opinions would be great. Thanks! goose89
Same size or one size up(Original 6s, go to a 4), trying to keep action / diving curve the same.Mustad triple grips. They are usually a bit "finer", thus a size up keeps weight the same, and increases hook ups. "Finer" hooks also rip through weeds better than thicker hooks. Good luck....... bonebaby0
I will 2nd the Mustad Triple Grips, more specifically the KVD Elite Series Triple Grips. They are tough on the wallet but really help your hook-up ratio. Excellent for ripping lipless cranks in the grass as you can upsize the hooks and still get the correct action. I highly recommend these hooks!
RK
Hiya - I change the hooks on a lot of baits. Stock hooks on some cranks are pretty feeble. I really like the KVD triple grips (although I didn't enjoy the one that was buried in my forearm last week all that much...). Nasty sharp, and the 1x short, 1x strong is a good combo for cranks. If you prefer Gamakatsu or Owner they have comparable hooks. I like short shank hooks so they don't tangle, in either triple grip/wide gap styles, or round bends. I go up a size when I can, and with short shank hooks you can usually get away with it. Cost is pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things, especially if you buy in larger quantities, and they are usually superior to stock hooks unless you're buying really high end crankbaits - which I usually don't.Cheers,RK
slipperybob
Smaller hooks is better for avoiding snagging weeds. Larger hooks is better for hooking up with fish.

bucketmouth64
I've put red hooks on my crank baits. I usually change the front one. Many of my strikes have the fish hooked with the red hooks.
BassNut33
Well oleballcoach, I guess there is a benifit to changing hooks?
