Time to trade up motors?

Have an eTec 90 from 2004 which has been outstanding. It's 7 year warranty has expired and I have wondered about swapping for larger motor. My Lund Pro V 1775 is rated for 150 hp. I have the eTec 90 and a T8 kicker on back. Weight difference between eTec 90 and 130 is 80 pounds. Could I pump my high end speed from current 34 mph to, say 45 mph? Yet be able to troll down to 1.8 mph with main power plant? Would I have to fill my 20 gallon tank every 20 minutes :-). It would be nice to have a new motor again and to shoot across Mille Lacs from our south end without having to trailer it to get to north end sand.

So, eTec 90 for eTec 130?

If I already had the T8 to take care of my trolling concerns, I'd get a 150. Why put the hours on your main motor?? Throttled back 150 might be as if not more friendly on gas than a WOT 130. I wouldn't worry about the extra 80lbs. or even 100. A 150HP rated boat with a 90HP motor definately should be upgraded, esp. if you ever plan on selling. 130 at least, if not 150. good luck....

I had same question with same boat only my motor was 13 year old 115 merc. Went for the 140 Suzuki. I will let you know how it works. But with the 115 my 98 1775 would go 42 mph or some days 41 on GPS. So mid 40's seem reasonable.
