Blown barring?

Jmeyers

Question

Hey guys,

So the little bro came home tonight with what we think is just a blown barring on one wheel of the trailer. He drove quite a distance though and we aren't sure if the axel has been dented or if anything else was wrong. We plan to take it in and get it fixed problem is we can't drive it anywhere...I was wondering how this works...Do I take pictures of it and head in to a marina to see if they can send out a guy to look at it and maybe a tow? would I just email them pictures and see what they say?

Not really sure what to do... here is what it the damage looks like

Its hard to tell by your picture. What I can see is the bearing buddy came unseated and slung grease.

I can't understand why the buddy is sitting on the spindle, it should have fallen off.

Tell me what is holding it on.

If that is all that happened then you repack the bearings put in new seal and reassemble.

Take the tire off and pull the buddy off.

Does the hub rotate freely and is the spindle centered in the hub without a lot pf sloop?

If so then your spindle should be fine.

There is a castle nut on the spindle. Remove that and take the hub off.

If your going to have someone replace the bearings, races, and seal then take that to them.

Can't tell from the pic what the real damage is. As long as you have the axel jacked up, grab the sides of the wheel and tire at 9:00 and 3:00 and see if you can move it in and out. Spin the tire and see if it spins freely and with no noise. Looks like the hub might be OK, if anything, you may just need to replace the bearings, races and seals.

good luck!

If your near a Gander they have Hub Kits at a very good price, some were on clearance for 1/2 of less of full price. Find out what size hub you need, measure the shaft or the inside of the bearing race on the shaft.

I can't tell if the shaft is shot or not? If your lucky...not. If it road on the inner bearing race it may be OK and the hub will be all you need?

Thanks for looking and the help, When I spin the wheel freely on the jack it makes a high pitch squeak....like something is rubbing or getting pinched. I'm not expert at this stuff so I think I'm going to get a long bed trailer to pick it up and bring it to the shop....won't be out musky fishing tonight i guess...

Surface if you still where wondering the buddy is sitting freely between the hub and the spindle, I can't get it to fit over the head of the spindle to pull off...

I'll let you know what they say

That's not a bearing buddy that's the hub. The axles on yours have a grease zerks on the end. You can see the nut still on the the and of the axle.

I'm going to bet this one is terminal and a new axle is I'm your future.

Im going with Airjer, something made that hub explode like that, maybe the outer bearing got fried and a chunk got wedged in between the shaft and hub at hwy speed? in any case i wouldn't get my hopes up that the spindle isnt damaged
