Pop up campers

We are thinking about getting a pop up camper. Anyone have pros and more important cons about them? We are getting tired of using a tent.

Defenitely a step up from a tent. But it depends on what kind of camping your like to do, if you have kids, etc. we have a travel trailer and would never go back to a pop up. Still very loud in a pop up, the trailer is nice and quiet for the kids to sleep in. plus more room for watching movies on those rainy days. But if you are into more "rustic" type camping, the pop up will serve better. My new idea of rustic is no water and sewer hook ups!

We just camped in our pop up camper for the first time to have a bit more shelter and room with a 9 month old and 3 1/2 yr old. It certainly is a lot better then camping in a tent to be up off the ground, have a stove for cooking needs and much easier for naps, etc. Additionally, we wanted to be able to take a boat along and I strapped a 12 ft aluminium v bottom boat to the top that worked well. Friday we were greated with rain at setup and all night long. No leaks and more shelter then tent for having to hang out inside. If your going from a tent it will be a nice move. Travel trailer would be nice, but for us takes up more space in driveway and we like the lightweight aspect of the pop up. It is 8 ft trailer we bought used for a very reasonable price and only weighs 835 lbs. Didn't effect gas mileage much pulling with f150 eco. Anyhow, I would recommend one, but depends on what your looking for. Another plus will be airflow in a popup once it warms with all the windows. Good Luck

Pop up is working fine with my family. Wife and 2 daughters ages 10 and 6. What I love about it...1) Can park in garage, 2)Cheap, Cheap, Cheap 3) simple to tow and find spots 4) did I mention cheap, cheap, cheap?

Honestly you have to decide how much your REALLY going to use it and where your going to STORE it. With our girls entering the summer "activity" ages, we only use it on weekends and about 2x a month. So for us to spend more for a travel trailer for 10-12 times a year didn't make sense. But when they are older/gone me and mama have been eyeing some nice travel trailers.

Thanks for the replies. It will just be just be me and my wife. Dont want the expense or have the room for storing a travel trailer. One more question does anyone pull both there pop up and boat?

If you mean pull a boat on a trailer behind your pop up, you can't do it, its illegal in mn. If you mean tossing a small boat or canoe on top of the pop up, guys do that all the time.

RyanV is correct about adding a boat. The only way to tow two trailers in MN is to have a 5th wheel or gooseneck style hitch trailer attached to the truck and the secondary trailer attached to the bumper of the 5th wheel.

Bought our Starcraft popup in 1998, have had the best times of our lives camping with the family. Never did tent camp and after having a popup never would tent camp. Now all the kids are grown, the wife says time to sell it. I told her "I'll have a harder time emotionally selling the camper, than when we sold our first home." Tons of great memories. Love popups, you get the fresh open air while sleeping, still feels like camping in nature.
