Anybody doing any summer calling?

We don't have a big problem with coyotes around here but I have found a few fawns over the last few years that had been ripped apart and mostly eaten. I'm not sure if it was from bears, coyotes or the neibors dogs that I keep catching running through my property. Once the coyotes start to have the pups I like to let them at least get big enough to have a fighting chance on their own before I take a crack at them but I'm not real sure when that might be.

Last week while coming home from a successful turkey hunt I caught one standing across the street. By the time I grabbed a rifle and got back he was headed over a hill and I just couldn't get him to stop before he got to the woods.

Then Sunday while coming in from another hunt I found a pile of scat on a rock that looked to have a piece of bone, similiar to a knee joint and suspiciously short brown hair in it. We're starting to see fawns and know of a couple turkey nests and I'm thinking of trying a few spots that we have a hard time hunting in the winter that have thicker cover and maybe shotgunning them before they find them.

I had one at 20yds while turkey hunting. He came in completely silent and I wasn't able to swing the shotgun on him. The camo was good though cause I was able to keep him around for a while by squeaking while I tried to move into position.

I had a coyote come in on my turkey decoy, thought he was gonna attack, but he sniffed and ran off.

I didn't shoot cause i didn't want to ruin my chance at a turkey.

LOL, bad decision, i should've cause i didn't see any turkeys'

I would like to be out calling but the areas I usually hunt are now off limits. Had one lone coyote speaking his mind a couple weeks ago not far from the house.

The female gray fox has been making her nightly visits to the yard again now that the weather has warmed up. The rabbit population seems to be down so I suspect the fox and the neighbors huge cat have been keeping them under control.

Last night the fox was 5 feet from the patio door. Wish I had the camera ready. frown
