Minnesota Trout Fishing

This year I went out and bought Trout stamps along with my fishing license. I have never been trout fishing but have always wanted to try.

Any tips on where to start and what to use? I would like to start on a lake near the metro but willing to travel...

Thanks,

I would recommend making a drive down south to river fish.

I've tried a couple of the lakes/ponds in the metro but only with spotty success. I've never done it but heard good things if you want to stand shoulder to shoulder on openers but they are in april I believe?

the previous poster covered the southern part of the state. check out the grindstone lake thread in the forest lake/hinkley forum. the ultimate trout area for me in the arrowhead area on the north shore and inland lakes. if you want information on where to go and what to use email me at [email protected] and i will be happy to give you information. good luck.

One thing to think about next year if you end up really liking trout fishing is to invest in a wisconsin license since there is a lot of great trout water on that side of the river.. and will save you plenty of driving time...

I would start with checking out the normal spots like White Water.. Forestville.. Hay Creek(much closer to your area).. Trout Run..

If you're not interested in fly fishing.. Spinners cannot be beat.. I like PMs size 4 and up in black/yellow with brass blade and yellow/red with silver blade
