Honda pressure washer

Tom7227

Question

A neighbor was ready to toss his Honda pressure washer cause it smoked too much. The oil was over filled and so I drained it, cleaned the plug and the carb and got it to run. Smoked for a minute or two and then seemed to run OK.

Problem is that unless the wand is spraying the thing turns off. I thought they had some sort of a neutral bypass or something that would let it run without the sprayer on. Anyone have ideas on what needs to be done? I don't have a manual.

Thanks for your help.

Tom

it should have a bypass that will allow the pressure to reduce when the wand is off. also another thing on those is the fuel shut off, that if you do not turn it off and run the carb out of gas, it will seep into the oil over time. we used a bunch of these motors in the fire dept

The pressure relief valve is most likely sticking. Remove and clean it and it should work fine.

Can really say where it would be for sure on yours, but normally located under one of the hex plugs on the pump.

The pump is a Comet AXD 2524. I can't find the manual on line and am reluctant to tear into it without some schematics. Anyone have one or know where to get it? It very likely is the unloader valve which may be part of the valve that you adjust the pressure with. I have a schematic of that type of valve and there are an awful lot of parts to it.

Thanks again.

Here is the link to the breakdowns. See page 66 for the breakdown. Item 20 is connected to 28 and this assembly sticks or gets rusty sometimes when they sit over winter. The water then will not bypass and pressure builds up and the unit stalls.
