upgrading electronics

if i were to upgrade my humminbird 768 to a color unit would i have to re do the GPS puck and transducer? what about side imaging i am guessing thats a different kind of transducer. thanks for any info.

My guess is yes.. for sure for Side Imaging.. Not sure on the ducer or GPS, but depending on how old your unit is, they probably have different connectors.

A call to humming bird will answer your question for sure. I my case I have a 565 black & white on the bow and a 597ci on the dash and they are interchangable. Same mount same transducer.

You could also just go to humminbird.com and scroll your mouse over products and click on transducers. Find you current transducer and click on it. On the right hand side it will show what units work with that transducer. Humminbird customer service is very good though. If you use the "contact us" link on their HSOforum and shoot them a message, they usually respond by the next day via email.

i had a humminbird 768 GPS and Lowrance x71 in the back of the boat. i went to the big C and looked and look and looked and ended up taking the x71 off and got humminbird 597CI with down imaging. and went with the lakemaster chip.it has the internal GPS and just took the Lowrance ducer off and put the new one on. i couldnt get myself to spend the extra $450 for side imaging. thanks for all your help.

I saw in the sponsor showcase forums that Crystal Pierz is running a big electronics sale and they are giving 10-20% off on lots of units. This may be worth checking out as you might be able to get a decent price on a unit with SI. Also, Dave at pro fishing supply might have been able to beat the price that the big C was asking, but I don't know that for sure.

if i didn't need the unit yesterday and get it installed i would have went with Profishingstore. i have bought my other humminbirds and my ice 55 from them. but i couldn't wait for it to be shipped. i will be upgrading my other two 768's to color units and will for sure be ordering from them:)
