Weird day on the water

I hit the St. Croix today and was really enjoying the morning, turkeys gobbling, saw a mink and a beaver and a couple Bald eagles. Fishing was great, managed a few to bring home and was working a new area, watching my rod tip and enjoying the sunshine. Evidently, snakes like sunshine too. I caught some movement in my peripheral vision and there on the bench seat a mere 2 feet away is a garter snake! Kind of freaked me out at first but glad it was on the bench seat and not crawling up my pantleg! I have no idea how the little bugger got in the boat but he was enjoying the sunshine right along with me before I sent him overboard to take a little swim.

Yeah, I think it must have crawled in at the house and rode along for the ride. Probably was hiding under the floor and when it got warm out decided to seek some warmth. He has been relocated or became fish bait at this point.

We saw a garter snake last year fishing Kab, back in a bay, just swimming around. My buddy had the bright idea of trying to grab it, and of course, it bit him. Oh well, not like it was a water mocasin or something!!! smile
