Flash tends to cause a lot of problems. Apple's "it just works" philosophy means they simply won't support anything that will cause problems on their device.

The simplest way to answer this would be ----- Steve Jobs is a money hungry control freak.

Honestly I think the reason was the Multi-touch technologies weren't compatible and neither would budge on the coding/dev side.

On a side note I noticed that Microsoft bought Skype today for 8.5 billion. Talk about a control freak.......

Yeah Microsoft is the big shark in the guppy pool. A lot of people have tried to steal their thunder but no go. And probably not going to happen anytime soon either.

They are losing out in the smart phone market

They are just getting their feet wet in the Smart phones. The big thing that MS has is marketing and name recognition.

Actually these big conglomerates such as Apple or Microsoft, Google will buy up any technology their interested in. Apple buys small companies you never heard of. In fact most do in which you never hear about. Then they start patenting the technologies. That's where the War is.

No, that is where the money is at.

99.9% of the time they are approached by the small companies or independent entrepreneurs. You dev something hot, the object is to part with it before it gets too big or drops is what many have said that have sold off ideas and concepts to large companies. Who wants the hassle when you can get cash in lue of.

Look at Skype. Founded and developed by a team which one had no formal training and was a high school drop out. Probably spent a month or two building the code and idea, then marketed it just enough to get a base of users. Then sold it to Evil Bay the other year for around 3 billion. That there is the global dream in full force.
