Camping spots?

What's up guys,

Myself and a few buddies are going on a mini trout trip and plan on camping in the SE mn area. Anyone recommend any camping spots along the Root, Rush, Whitewater, Lanesboro, Pine areas? If anyone has found a campsite they particularly like along any of the stated streams or surrounding streams please share.

Thanks for the help

Walter

we've stayed at eagle cliff betw whalan and lanesboro on hwy 16 for the last 5 years on opener--they'll willingly take you & canoes kayaks all over the area but best of all tenting on the root riverside where you are literally a few steps from good fishable stream

p.s. if you are in the lanesboro area you owe it to yourself to stop in at the lanesboro pastry shop for breakfast or lunch--they never disappoint with bakery goods and chef bret and staff are awesome and not aftraid to serve a big bunch of guys--or is it a bunch of big guys--anyhow, way good--ask if they have any fresh smoked salmon.

thanks for the help everyone. we ended up staying at the beaver creek state park in Caledonia. nice place, friendly staff and you actually drive over the creek a few times in the campground. lots of trout were caught with the biggest being about an 18 inch brown

I am a big fan of the campsites in Forestville. I think theyre the only park around that has nice sand spots for putting your tent on.

Great facilities.

Also, look to camp in some of the state forest around whitewater too. Every year when we go down on whitewater we see a few people camped out here and there. It's spectacular but a couple mile hike with your gear. Im sure there are other state forests you can camp in too. There is a lot of public land down there that doesn't see many people outside of hunting season. Otherwise the state park has great facilities too, pretty quiet, especially early in the year before you get a ton of recreational campers.
