Fishing Gear

I recieved a telescopic fishing rod as a gift. I would like to buy a new open-face reel for it. I want something that will be smooth and quiet. I never catch anything that big, so it doesn't have to be super heavy duty. I mainly fish for brook trout. I want good quality, but can't afford to pay a ton of money for it. Something in the mid-range for price. Any suggestions?

For the most part, you pay for what you get. Any mid-range model should work.

I have been using the Fish Eagle ultralight spinning reels. They are the private label reels from Cabela's - about $30. My favorite spinning reel is the Pfluger President XL.

I also like the pflueger reels also. Very smooth and good reels for the money. Another reel I am starting to like is the shimano sienna. VERY smooth reels and priced right also.

Thanks guys for all of the suggestions! Any ideas on a good place to buy them? I was thinking maybe Gander Moutain, unless someone knows of a better place.

Pflueger and Shimano. FF is usually quite a bit cheaper than Cabela's....tha's where I've bought mine.

FF is usually always having some discount on their reels.. i would check them out first

Helen in the Duluth area you could go to Northwest Outlet, Marine General, Fisherman,s Corner as well as Gander Mountain. I know that Gander had a flyer out but I did not look at it but I would bet they have a couple of combo's on sale.
