MUSKY18
At first I was really confused about picking Ponder, but the more you look at it, the more and more I like it. Look at the type of offensive sets that Musgrave runs. Lots of 2 and 3 tight end sets. With drafting Randolph, now you have Kleinsauser to block and Randolph and Shiancoe to slip out in the flats. If you need to max protect to help the kid out, well those two tight ends are almost the size of some O linemen. Reading up on Ponder and looking at comments made by coaches/players, ya gotta love this kid. Does he have the greatest arm, nope. But he is extremely smart (yes, he does have a Masters) and if he can use those smarts to learn to read defenses, even better. Remember a QB from the 80's who didn't have a great arm, but was accurate and smart.......goes by the name of Joe Montana! I like Ponders chances just as much as any other QB that we could have drafted. Now.......we need to get rid of Sullivan and get a big ol mean nasty center to lead the O line! LMITOUT
What we are seeing is the makings of a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust offense...exactly opposite of what you need to win in this league. With their 4th round pick they might want to grab a punter because Klouwe may be worn out by the bye week.Go figure, the Vikings are being discussed on NFLN right now as one of the teams with the most disappointing draft through Day 2. While the Vikings have a hole at QB, and they made an attempt to fill that hole, but they wasted their best pick on the 5th best QB in the draft. When they could have filled one of thier other gaping holes with the best player of the position of the draft, and get a stud, immediate impact player, that would fill a needed hole for years to come. Instead of maybe filling a hole, with a mediocre player. Oh well, my hopes werent very high on them anyways. Lmit, does your secret team need another fan? As this Viking fan wants to have a good team to cheer for for once. If you think I sound negative now, wait until they sign McNabb! I will be just as dissapointed as when the signed Favre. LMITOUT
I'm not saying that as Viking-hater guy at all. I truly can't believe their moves thus far. Now they picked up some guy that will give Percy a smoking buddy. Smoking dope before the combine? Ponder may be smart but that dude definitely isn't, and it's astounding how they could burn (no pun intended) their 3rd pick on a player that apparently has no grasp of personal responsibility and comprehension of possibly the biggest moment of your life/playing career. Rudolph looks like a great TE, but was that a glaring NEED for the Vikings at that point in the draft? I don't think so. Case in point: Packers just took D.J. Williams who was the nation's top TE of the year in 2010 in the 5th round at pick 141. I also understand that pick #12 was the sucker hole for a QB this year, but as the #1 need for this team they should have done everything they could to swap with Washington and grab Gabbert. The elephant in the room, however, was their lack of a 3rd rounder which they squandered last season on Moss...another brilliant front office move on a long list of many. With all that said, I think it boils down to one thing: This team is cursed.
zepman
I agree on that...our lack of a 3rd rounder this year is what kept us from getting Gabbert...FOOLISH decisions from last year came back to bite them good. Vikings had Gabbert rated higher than Ponder and you could just tell from Spielmans presser that he was frustrated that they didn't have the ammo to go up and get him. It's their own F'in fault. Snag
If he shows up for camp for a day, it's better than Demetrius Underwood.
