Checking for diagnostic codes on 08' Highlander?

Recommended Posts

No, just go to a local parts store, like Autozone, they will scan it for you for free.

Or buy one. I bought one a month ago at Carquest for $69. Reads codes and clears them. Have used it quite a few times already.

Unfortunately you will have to bring it in to get he codes pulled for anything other then engine codes, or find someone with an updated scan tool that will retrieve codes from other modules.

You think Autozone would have an updated scan tool that could read codes other than engine codes? Have not made it in yet to check with them.

To buy, or use? The ones they let you use are just Engine code readers. That wont help you out with what your looking for. I am sure they have some for sale that would do it, but bring your check book! A cheap one will run you about $1500, A GOOD ONE $10K.

You can get a pretty good one for about $5. The $10k one would be the really good one. With a blue tooth wireless OBDII connector for wireless scanning, a wireless DVOM (tap into your wires, secure it under the hood, and either walk away or drive away. Pretty slick), full color touch screen navigation, and wireless internet all built in.

Probably cheaper to just have Toyota read it for me!! frown

I think my FIL has access to a good one like you guys are referring to.....so hopefully I wont need to take it in.
