preparation H for bait.

Has any one ever heard of rubbing preparation H on they're bait? If so what attracts fish to it.

I fished in a RCL tournament this past summer and my pro rubbed a little on this leech. I bet I had a funny look on my face when he pulled that out of this bag of tricks.

I've heard of it. I heard that fish oil is a component but I cannot confirm.

Don't know about that one,but I do know a guy who sprays his spoons with WD-40 every 3rd or 4th cast.Never tried it myself.

Prep-H has shark liver oil in it, maybe thats the reason? Never tried it or the WD-40. I'm pretty sure I have read about at least one of these in something like Field and Stream in the past.

A walleye pro had told me about the Preperation-H trick so I bought a tube. Many years ago while fishing Mille Lacs with my buddy(before the days of slot limits), fishing was quite slow. I took out the tube and put some on my leech. My buddy thought I was crazy. However, after I had boated 4 walleyes, he used some on his leech. We went home that evening with our limit of nice walleyes.

From what I've been told from quite a few launch captians was that back in the 70's they figured out that the people who were coming in contact with gas, oil, or other types of petro substances were catching more fish.
the reason I was told was that the substace would irriate the leeches and give them more action than the others.
How much truth is there to this? I don't know it's just what I heard but I tend to believe it more than not.

I asked my pro what the deal was with the prep and his theory was that it got them more agitated, hence better action which is what MudMan is saying.

It did not make a difference for me on that particular day, but I would be open to giving it a try again.

My pro said he has noticed a significant difference when using it.

It makes a guy think though.
