Arago
Where are you guys going it hit it this coming season? Last 5 years I've stayed in Minnesota due to fairly good bird numbers. However, with a 11 year old lab needing a real good hunt, I may cross the border this year as well. I have a hunch it may be a tough year. pureinsanity
I do both. Last year I did neither When I can afford it I have private land near Mitchel SD. Works wonders as my father set up contacts 20 some years ago and now I am getting the benefits for what he has set up out there. I am a lucky person none the less! I have a few good public spots marked in MN as well for a weekend or day trip. I typically wont hunt here in mn until deer opener so I can have most the lands I hunt to myself for birds! gspman
Hopefully both. Didn't get any hunting in last year.
creepworm
I will do both South Dakota and MN. Gotta love resident licenses in both states.
LovenLifeGuy
I will do both, but with shooting 64 birds in MN last year I can't give that up! I will say this, fewer birds means fewer hunters. Last year I didn;t see as many birds but I had the best year ever. For one the dog is getting to his prime at 4 years old and two, I busted my [PoorWordUsage] for my dog to get to those birds. I love busting my [PoorWordUsage]!
Arago
64 birds in one season is pretty darn good! Public or private?
pureinsanity
Wouldn't that be a bit illegal for one person. just saying unless you are eating the evidence daily lol
pureinsanity
There is only 78 days in the season. that isn't pretty darn good thats amazing. that's almost a bird a day
carpshooterdeluxe
Wouldn't that be a bit illegal for one person. just saying unless you are eating the evidence daily lol Did he say anywhere that he had 64 in his freezer?Heck I shot over 50 last fall and never had one hit the freezer. Not hard to cook up 3 birds in about 15 minutes and see them disappear off the plate!Things aren't looking all that great right now where we hunt birds in eastern SD and western MN. Wet is the word. we need some warm weather. Duck production should be phenomenal again this spring however.

Snag
I might get a North Dakota license this year for a 3-4 day trip.
LovenLifeGuy
If you like pheasant it is very easy to never put a bird in the freezer. I don't feel like I should have to justify myself, just seems to be the way things go on this site the last couple years.I was just trying to push the point that we have a great hunting population in this state and you don't have to go out of state to get great hunting.I got 54 the year before that and the bird #s were up from this past year. And yes I do count the birds I shoot, I keep a tail feather from every bird I shoot over my dog, it helps me remember the fun I have had with my dog!All those birds are shot on public land except for one weekend of hunting.I am lucky enough to be able to take most of the fall off to hunt and I only pheasant hunt in MN. Trust me it is not that difficult, if you put the hard work in. All it takes is hip boots and some sweat!Well, sure enough I felt like I had to defened myself. Ohh, well! DitchPickle13
I wouldn't sweat it LovinLifeGuy, it is an internet forum and you gotta take the good with the bad...sounds like a heck of a year. I'll be very happy if I shoot half that many this season!
Arago
I to would be happy with half that. My real question is, how the hell can I take most of the fall off to hunt!!!
tacklejunkie
If I didn't live in close proximity to good grouse hunting, I'd probably would have quit hunting altogether.Grab a shotgun, drive less than 20 minutes, no investment in expensive equipment, no sitting in a cold deer stand, and good exercise
