bucketmouth64
What do you go by when you are looking at a superline like fireline crystal? I have been looking at using something different in a spinning reel that's not a braid. I've seen on many shows using fireline or other superline under a 10 pound test line diameter. I also read on the package that fireline crystal was made for spinning reels. I have bait casters that I don't go under 10 pound diameter (40lb test) in a braid because of the digging in factor. Is there the same problem with spinning reels using nonbraid superline?
Wayne Ek
Morning Tony'I use 6/14 fireline on a number of spinning reels (enough so that I now buy bulk spools) I've tried crystal but went back to the fire line. I also use 20-pound power pro on a couple of size 30 reels and 50-pound power pro on a dock rod. I have not had any problem with the digging issue on spinning tackle. I think the hook sets are a little lighter with spinning, that maybe why.I've never spooled anything smaller than 6/14 fireline on any of my bait casters. grab the net
For the majority of my bass fishing with spinning rods, I have used Fireline between 8lb, 10lb and even 14lb. The 14 is a little stiff initially, but after a few outings and several fish it gets limp and casts well. Never had a digging problem on a spinning reel, don't think you ever will because of the way the line gets laid on the spool. Fireline is tough stuff and in my opinion excels for skipping under docks and trees using spinning gear. I had a few problems with spools of Crystal when it was brand new, just bad batches I think. In the last year or so it has improved, I think it stands up as well as the regular smoke color now. I once found a deal on several spools of pink Fireline, 10lb test. Looked goofy but the fish did not seem to mind at all.
whitebassman
coming out soon i believe is a new line by berkley, Nanofil, which is neither mono or braid. It is a polyethylene line, and reports I've heard sounds great for light line use and even ice fishing.looking forward to trying it out. it won't be out til June is what I heard though. slipperybob
I've used 14# Fireline Crystal and Fireline Original on my baitcasting reels. I like how the Crystal handles a little bit better. I've also used 10# Fireline Original on my baitcasting reels. I don't have any problems with line digging in, because I have my drag set fairly light. As far as spinning reels goes, I like how 10# Fireline handles so much better vs 14# Fireline. The line digging in problems on spinning reels varies a lot between each reel. I like how the Stradic line lays so much better than all of my other cheaper reels.
