hard-wiring graph to trolling motor

Fish&Fowl

Question

I have a MinnKota Powerdrive V2 that is about 5 years old. They no longer make the adapter the fits both the end of the motor and my graph. I am wondering if it is possible (if done correctly) to wire the graph directly to the motor?

The motor has 3 small wires (black, blue, and a bare one) inside the main transducer cable, and the graph transducer cable has these same colored wires as well as a couple others (red, green and yellow if I remember right.)

The motor and graph both work great and I see no reason why I should have to buy a newer trolling motor just to get and adapter that works...pretty disappointed in Minn Kota for discontinuing adapters for such a recent motor.

F&F, you are giving us incorrect information.

IF you do have a V2 then you have US2 as they both came out in 2007. If you have a GripGlide PowerDrive (model the V2 replaced) then you have a US1.

Ok I'm just not having any luck with this graph. I finally found an MKR-US-5, which is the adapter cable with a grey end. I have read a few places that this will work for my graph, and it does fit the connection.

However, the cable fits into the back of the graph that is marked SONAR. There is a seperate receptacle on the back that says its for the POWER/DATA, so I assumed I needed to run the one labeled GPS POWER (which has 3 wires-black, red, and bare). I hooked up the red and black to my battery but got nothing. Do I need to hook up the bare wire as a ground? If so, how do I do that?

Again, thanks for any info you can give me. The cheap Eagle graph I had hooked up before works fine with this same set-up.

The MKR-US-5 should work to connect your 522c to your Universal Sonar motor. That connects to the Sonar port, which is the transducer only. You won't get water temperature with the set-up but you should get sonar scroll data and water depth.

The Power/Data port is how you power the unit and how you power the nmea network. You need to have the red/black wires connected to your power supply for the 522c to power up. Make sure you fuse the red wire. You also need to connect the nmea red and black wires to power for the gps to power up. Make sure you fuse the red wire.

Hope that makes sense, and good luck.
