Recommended Posts

Found a 03 Lund 1700 Pro Sport 115 Yam 4 Stroke

Immaculate condition..seriously looks new..Hell of an upgrade from my 16ft 40hp Lowe. ANYWHO....i mostly fish musky..some walleye/bass with wife n kids. How big a pain in the rear is the walk thru windshield for musky fishing? I know room is essential especially for working follows etc.

any thoughts?????i need to make up my mind quick

if it wasnt so clean it would be easier to walk away and wait for a side console unit. 100 hours on motor and not so much as a nick in the paint anywhere. Jsut looking for advice on the windshield issue. One buddy said its a royal PITA. I usually end up fishing musky on the worse weather imaginable and sick of getting wet in my 16 footer..lol Its def time for a bigger/deeper boat

windshelds are nice in cold weather and rough seas to stay warm and dry.

that being said they catch a lot more wind when fishing, its like a sail.

full wind shield is for me, gore tex works well.

on ther other hand there are alot of big time hard core musky fishermen with full wind sheilds

I used to be such a diehard tiller guy I'd tell my friends if they ever saw me sitting behind a steering wheel, shoot me. Went from that to a single console, then a dual, and have had a walk-thru the last 6 years. Catches a little wind, and you do give up a small amoutn of room, but it's worth a layer of clothes in October and November. Love my walk thru.

I have a 1750 full windshield and I like it. I think a bigger issue than the figure 8/follow deal is trying to fish 2 people in the front. The windshield takes up a lot of space and you can't really have 2 guys casting 8' rods up there, not without rubbing elbows anyway.

On a cold day that windshield is worth it's weight in gold.

Let us know what you end up buying.

I never wanted a full windshield until the family need dictated my boat purchase, but now, I will never not own a full windshield tough to beat in NASTY conditions. Late fall trolling, heavy wind, downpour rain, brutal cold, or when you launch in South St Paul under the Wacuota Bridge and you want to start at the confluence and slowly work your way down the river after all the lakes are frozen or still iced up in the spring.

Buy it! I just bought a side console Alumacraft, but I think my wife and kids would have preferred a full windshield. I do fish out of my dad's 19'6" Lund Tyee and there is not enough room up in the front for two guys to cast comfortably. That said, put you’re fishing buddy in the back. The front is for the captain! grin

Honestly i dont see the need for two guys to fish the frt of any boat. I usually catch more fish even in the back.

anyway..ended up buying the 1700 Lund w windshield. Got a decent deal on a boat thats like new and with the 115 yammy 4 stroke it will hold its value if i ever decide to sell. Picking it up later this afternoon. Thanks for all the advice folks!

Can't beat a windshield when the weather & waves kick up. A fold down top is also nice on hot days or rainy days. Never had a problem with windshield getting in way for any type of fishing. Put the nose of boat to the wind on cold days and hide behind windshield for a wind break.

My family has a cabin on mille lacs. On that lake I think its a general rule of thumb to have a windshield for any type of fishing. I know there have been days out there that I have hidden behind it. And that is because you have to unless you want to be a wet shivering mess.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
