Rain Gear Maintenance

Recommended Posts

Yeah, another rain gear question. Dug out my rain gear last night to do some work outside for a pointer club that I'm in. This rain gear is 10 years old and looks fine. There wasn't enough rain to test the gear though.

I'm wondering if there is a product available to treat it, something like spray on tent sealer.

Is this something other do, if so, how often and what do you use?

Yup, go to the camping section of GM and look for a wash-in water repellent. I use ReviveX and it seems to do a great job. If you want to do it properly get the ReviveX Fabric Cleaner also. I've also sent my tent through the treatment and it helps a TON when it rains.

You can also use a spray on sealer like Camp Dry on your garments, but that only coats the outside of the fabric. I do like to coat my rainwear afterward with Camp Dry in areas like the knees, butt, elbows, and shoulders, also the entire zipper flap and other areas that may wear faster and be prone to leakage.

The ReviveX® Water Repellent waterproofing system is by far the best for rain wear that is also designed to breath. Gander H20 suits, Cabela's suits, Colombia suits, Red Head and Bass' Pro suits...ect..ect.

They have a wash in system and a spray on system, and both do well.

Read and fallow the directions, fallow them, and they do the job. They are the most recommended treatment bye the manufactures of Gore Tex and other hi-tech rain wear.

Most retails of sporting gear will carry it. Or it is also easily found on-line.

Same here - but I do one other thing too.. I use Seam Sealer along all seams.. These are the most notorious spots to leak (especially the crotch of the bibs) - so doubling up with Seam Sealer plus the RevieX is a good idea, especially if you put a lot of use in your rain gear!

Thanks for the recommendation. Picked up the cleaner and treatment at Gander in the camping section just as directed.

They don't give this stuff away, so I offset the cost by picking up a fra bill musky net for $37, marked down from $119. Dollar cost averaging in fishing gear. And who said those econ classes wouldn't pay off. laugh
