Decoy placement

Bowfin

Recommended Posts

I bought 1 hen and 1 Jake decoy. Planning on taking my son out for the last 2 days of the "B" season and I'm hunting season "E". Any tips on using decoys? How do you place - Jake facing hen or vice versa? Close together or far apart?

Set your decoys faceing you and off to the side of where you think they will come from and close I hunt them from a blind with the bow and the farthest I put my decoys is 13 yards. If I use a hen and a jake I like to set the hen as low to th ground as I can get it with the jake right up behind her standing over her looks like breeding. With the decoys faceing you more times then not the tom will come in between you and the decoys so he can get in front of them.

2 decoys are plenty. I always use just one hen, right in front of me and no more then 5 yds out. Turkeys can pinpoint the exact location of the calling so i dont put them very far from me. I have always had my best luck using a single hen, i have another hen and a jake i bring with but never use them.
