External gps mount

I just bought a new hummingbird with the external gps. Does anyone know if I would be able to mount it in one of my compartments, will I have enough signal?

Nope, it should have a clear view of the sky for best results and most accurate positioning.

Agree, it's not going to work in a compartment if there's metal above it, and even if there's not, it still probably won't work very well.

Lots of guys mount them on their gunnels, bow plates, or even in their splashwells. You just need to look at your boat and find a good location. Good luck.

I had a 788ci (so the physical part of the GPS signal recption is different) working in my S-10 this winter ice fishing, so you might be surprised by where that receiver will work. But, obviously, the best solution is one that gives you a clear picture of the sky.

Can you just rig it up temporarily (i.e. Hook up the power supply, buy don't hide the wires or anything else that will require much futzing to do/ undo.) and put it in the compartment and see what kind of reception you get? Keep in mind that on a cloudy/ very overcast day your reception will suffer, and if you've already handicapped the antenna by putting it inside a compartment you might be SOL.

Plus, you're losing secure storage man!
