So, who all is applying for MN Quota Bear?

Recommended Posts

My partner and I signed up again for zone 12...but we aren't getting our hopes up...we were drawn and hunted last year so we lost all our preference and they also dropped the available permits by 100....down to 350 this year and last year there were over 900 applicants for the 450 available permits...but, if we don't somehow luck out we'll gain a preference point again!

I don't know if you are aware of the new rule change this year. If you are selected you have until friday July 29th to purchase your license. The DNR has had about 30% of the lottery users not purchase licenses, so this year if you were not successful and there are unpurchased licenses you can purchase any remaining licenses starting August 3rd at noon. If there are still licenses and someone didn't participate in the lottery they can purchase any remaining license starting at noon on August 12th. So if you weren't picked you should still look at what is avaiable after July 29th.

Here is the link the the DNR HSOforum announcement on this change

I just applied for area 44. I drew last year and shot my first bear with my bow. I already have a freezer full of goodies plus 5 more boxes that need to get into buckets. Also need to refill the big garbage can with more fryer grease. I figure I used ~40-50 gallons of grease last year

Here is the skinny I sent out to my hunters;

New for 2011, bear lottery winners must purchase their license by July 29, 2011. Unsold and

any surplus licenses will then become available for one week to those that applied but were

not selected in the lottery starting August 3, 2011 at 12:00PM. August 10, 2011 at 12:00PM any

remaining unsold license will become available to anyone. Please look for a DNR news release

or check the DNR Web Site (www.dnr.state.mn.us) in late July, for further information.

Just applied for my son and I. We last went in 2008, when he got his 1st bear. Only he drew a tag that year, so we applied as a party the last two years, hopefully the 3rd times the charm! Area 31, 25 second choice. I have killed bear in both in the past.

I'm still waiting for the bear... frown

grin That's a good one and really describes bear hunting. Great baits go dead and dead baits become great. None of us know when it is going to change and we are usually sitting on the wrong bait.
