Dobyns rods

Has Anyone used this brand of rods. I've heard good things about them on a couple of other sites. They look and feel good at the Big C store as well. I was thinking about the 7 foot 3 inch heavy action casting model in the "Savvy" series. I've been buying St croixs for the past few years and have some Avid and Mojo rods from them. So if you've fished both let me know what you like. Thanks.

just bought a dobyns champion extreme 703C in late winter and got a chance to do some river fishing on the mississippi with it before the season officially ended in february. i have to say, they are as good as people say they are. very sensitive and feels really light in hand due to it's superior balance. although it felt light, it did not by any means feel weak. just a crisp and clean kind of feel to the rod. i bought it on sale at capra's for 30% off but if i had to buy another one at full retail price, i wouldn't hesistate to do so.

but i heard that the savvy is a little heavier in hand than the champion and champion extreme but still balanced well. if capra's is still having their 30% off sale right now on dobyns rods, you can pick up a champion series for the price of a savvy. and that would be a steal as well.

Im in a bass fishing club here in California and everyone out here loves the Dobyns rods. Probably because he is from the area. Anyways, from what I hear, they are great dropshot rods. Very sensitive with enough backbone to set the hook.

I'm a diehard GLoomis guy but so far my friends and everyone has been raving about Dobyns. I might pick one up but a little hesitant about the color scheme sick. And a little hesitant because my friends never fished with Loomis before. Anyone out there used Loomis and then used Dobyns. I would like to know from these guys to get a good personal comparison.

I'm sure Dobyns are great rods. I'm sure if I didn't go Loomis, I prob would have gone Dobyns years ago.

I dont know, its really apples and organes I think, just comparing my 893 NRX and my 704C Extreme. different lengths and powers, but Ill give you my opinions on both and let you decide.

893 NRX- 7'5 med heavy casting rod. in my opinion, the most bad-[PoorWordUsage] jig rod for 1/2oz and under jigs. light and sensitive. I was a bit hesitant at first, thought the rod was really underpowered for a MH, as compared to the GLX BCR series. but it has plenty to spare. biggest bass last year was 5.6, so its got no problem. i wouldnt use it as a slop rod. worth the pricetag? I would say no, but i didnt pay retail for mine. and well, we all know the sub-par warranty.

Champion Extreme- Got it to use as a heavy jig and frog rod. Incredibly balanced, meaning it does feel lighter. Plenty of backbone for the techniques I stated above. Opionions vary on the look; some say its a little more bling than other rods, some say its ugly. but, I think the chameleon reel seat is cool. The craftsmanship is top notch for a rod made overseas. and I think the warranty is 10x better than Loomis.

All in all, i think its a personal preference thing. With the NRX rods, Loomis did it right. Those rods are hard to beat. BUt for that price very limited to only certain customers. Personally, Id rate the champion extreme series in between the GLX series and the NRX series, if there was one.

I had predominantly used Loomis rods for the last 15 years, last spring I was able to get a sweet deal on a couple Dobyns. I have since then bought several more, even selling a few Loomis rods in the process.

Both companies make great rods, model by model, you could make arguments on which is better, comes down to personal preference by technique. But I fee you get more for your dollar with Dobyns and I think more attention to detail and balance across the all rods, I feel like I have had a few Loomis rods that could have had a little more planning & design, where as every Dobyns just feels right with a reel on it and you start fishing it

Thanks to those with first hand experience between both rods. My biggest bass last year was 7.12oz on a 6'6" 1/8oz jig and second biggest was a 5.4oz on a 7' 5" GLX Flipping stick with a king daddy spro frog at the end of it. So sometimes big rods don't always catch the biggest fish. Over the years I have collected a lot of GLX and last year I picked up an 873 NRX - 7'3" MH. These rods are amazing but their warranties are starting to create road blocks for me.

I hear nothing but good things about Dobyns from diehard Loomis guys like me; the warranty and price is a plus. I probably won't sell all my Loomis to convert over to Dobyns but I might try one or two.
