bassfshin24
I want to put a swing away tongue on my boat trailer this spring. Does anyone know where I could get this done? I know some people have said you can do this yourself but I just dont have the tools to get this done. Any suggestion for the Roseville area to have this done. PerchJerker
A few years ago I bought a 1 year old boat from a guy on a prostaff. I needed a swing tongue on it so I took it to a local dealer who carried that brand of trailer. They had to order the parts but did a really nice job on it and I had it back in just a few days. Rebel9921
I did it myself on my boat trailer... Pretty much you can borrow tools from your friends if they have it... What you would need are: Reciporating Saw with metal blade or an angle grinder with metal cutting wheel, along with drill and drill bits... then the installation would require wrenches and torque wrench... or if you prefer, welded on... If you're going to do it yourself, watch out for the wiring!!!Otherwise, your best bet would be to contact marine shops or fabricating shops.. Good luck! bassfshin24
I have a Triton bass boat and I think the trailer brand is Triton. I know there is no Triton boat dealers in the cities.
amateurfishing
I was thinking bout this very same thing yesterday, how much does something like that cost to do urself, i have most of those tools
morepower02
The hinge kit runs between $85.00 and $104.00 depending if the frame is 3"x3" or 3"x4". Labor would be around $250.00. If the trailer has brakes and a metal brake line in the tounge then the price goes up a little.
PerchJerker
The Triton HSOforum lists a dealer in Wyoming, MN

amateurfishing
I have 35 inches from base of base of bow line brace to ball, would this be a good idea in my case?

You will be able to shorten the trailer a couple feet with a hinge kit if storage length is an issue.
amateurfishing
@ Chris, do you guys weld or bolt them on? Is there a difference in labor for 1 or the other?
morepower02
We always bolt them on. We have never had any problems doing them that way. The labor price I quoted is with bolting the unit on.
MuskieJunkie
Hannay's in Minneapolis bolts them on too. They also stock the bolt on kits for anyone else reading this that wants to do it themselves.I did it myself a few years ago and it was cheap, easy (although it's time consuming to drill all the holes) and has worked out great. If you search these forums I think I posted pictures after I did it. morepower02
You are correct, it is very easy to do just time consuming. Make sure you have new or very sharp drill bits.
amateurfishing
For those of you that have already done this, after the cutting was done did you do any filing to trim down the sharp edges from the shavings or does the coupler just cover all of that up? Or is there something to coat edge with or cover edge with? Would hate to get a nasty cut or something from that new edge on the tongue. morepower02
The kit that I use covers up the cut edges. It sticks a couple of inches on either side other wise there would be no material to bolt to. I can try posting a picture tomorrow if you would like me to.
amateurfishing
that would be great, thx.

Also you don't want those sharp edges cutting your trailer light wires. I sanded all the edges down with a sanding disc and wrapped the wires in a plastic casing. morepower02
This is the kit I use.
fishfearme
A flat bastard or grinding disk will work better than sanding, faster too!
amateurfishing
When doing this, which side does the jack usually end up on? front or back?
morepower02
You want the jack behind the hinge.
