Stop thinking so hard and just fish!

It's 6am, the sun is just cresting the horizon as I reach the dock with my gear and place my gear in a neat little pile on the bench seats in back of the boat. I help my buddies get in and then call Bailey over so she can tag along and "help." The birds are chirping, you can hear the breeze rustling through the trees only to be interrupted by 250 Horses galloping in unison in that 8 cyl i/o. I gently back the boat out of the lift far enough to turn and head to the destination. Then I think, "where am I going?"

I will never make a decision quickly, nor will i have full confidence in my decision; always wondering what the next best alternative would have been. I know the lake well structure-wise so know where I would hang if I were a fish, but picking just one spot on a 2500 acre lake can be tricky!

Anyone else have this problem?

I have not been fishing seriously all that long, and am new to the lake I am referring to, is this just part of the learning curve, or am I doomed to be thinking too hard the rest of my life?!!!

My plan to avoid this or at least curb it a touch is to try to stick "local." I'll go south to the islands, or to "panfish bay," occasionally but might try sticking to the basin on the end where I reside, and trolling the weedlines north to the creek inlet.

Ha! Yep, but it even happens on my little 200 acre lake where my cabin is - where will the smallies be today?.... And on one of our "home waters" out in WC MN, about 4000 acres I think, we have that same mulling over in the morning all the time smile

I find that if I start geting to technical when it comes to fishing, it loses it's joy.

The funny thing is when I started fishing Superior, I got way too technical and scientific. I kept reading info and counter info. I was making it harder than it needed to be

Now, I let the fish tell me what they want and have fun. And, like magic, my fishing out there has improved

Haha, I hear ya Slab... It is worse for me in the winter that in the summer....so in the summer, When undecided i'll often just put the motor in gear, cast out a crank bait, and drink a couple cups of coffee. That unmistakable noise coming from a 'hit' while trolling will immediately take me out of "thinking too hard" mode! grin

Nah, that's not a problem that I have. I almost always have a well defined plan knowing which spot I REALLY want to get to and fish. Choosing "the spot" is easy!

Here's my problem: Usually it's far away from the put-in. That's may not be a huge issue to some, but I will ALWAYS see "oh, well there's two dozen spots I want to stop at and cast to on my way", and then I spend all day FISHING MY WAY to "the spot", rather than FISHING "THE SPOT".. lol.
