Getting on the water?

When is everybody gonna get out on the water for some channels? Flatheads?

First couple weeks of April we start seeing nice channels.

First couple weeks of May we start seeing nice Flats.

Historically any efforts before then are almost always futile.

I think the question here is not when, but where and how will we get on the river. With most launches / roads probably closing it might be tough!

Yeah the sooner the better but only time will tell how the flooding pans out. Seems like it might be later than most years, so I'm sure I won't be fishing Cats on the KOTC opener. I usually start targeting Channels mid-late April during high water and then seem to get my first Flathead right around May 1st.

April 17th, 2010 was my first recorded Channel Catfish with 6 others caught before May. Quite a few big ones in that time frame, too. May 1st, 2010 was my first recorded Flathead of the year at 26". Didn't see any nice Flatheads until late May.
