Just picked one up today at the outdoor show in Fargo. Reeds had them for $450. I already have an ICE-55 flasher so I won't probably bother using it for ice fishing. Now I'm getting pumped for open water season!

Thats a great price for a combo unit!

Take the 788 out and play around with it on the ice. I think youll be surprised, if you give it a chance.

Of course, if you want the gps capabilities youll have to tote the module with you.

NTW, No, thats a good question. Actually, what I did was to take a 385 out of the Humminbird Ice box and mounted the 788 in its place to make it portable.

The only reason I did this, was because I was impressed with the 385s 2d sonar capabilitites , but it is only a 3 1/2" screen. I thought as long as I had the 788 , I would try it with its 5" screen.

I wish I had known how well the 788 worked on the ice before I bought the 385.

I shouldve just bought a portable ice kit for the 788 and a ice ducer.

Probably wouldnt have saved much money parting it out like that, though

so how much the ice-ducer set up cost??

If you already have the unit.

The batttery and charger will cost you 39.95 (GCBK from the Humminbird site.

The carrying case cc ice is 39.99

And the Ice ducer 83/200 is $81.99

+1 for the 788CI on the ice. I run that and I love it.

You don't have any GPS puck with the internal GPS model, so I'd make sure that that's what you buy.

Also, I just bought the 8-amp battery and charger combo from Cabela's on sale for $20 earlier this winter and it runs the unit for at least 8-10 hours.

I tried my 798 this winter. It worked good fishing alone. You will get interference with other finders. it helped to switch to 83hz but that is not as sensitive as the 200. I really liked using the wider cone in shallow water. I turned the mounting bracket around and zip tied the cord to the bracket and the SI ducer hung straight under the ice. A friend of mine has a ice machine, biggest difference was his screen moved faster. his son understood his screen much faster than my vex. I do like my vex for outdoors fishing and the humminbird for in the portable.

i will say that I got the 798 this winter and has not been installed in boat yet. I just wanted to learn more about how to use it and had a hard time seeing it sit in the box in the basement.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
