SkunkedAgain
Problem is for me that there is only one heat duct/damper in the basement. It would be tough for me to force all of that air through the one duct.I think that I've decided to go with baseboard heat and a sub panel. It's the best solution for my use. We have a pretty low electric bill as it is so I'm not too concerned. We are also looking into the possibility of a pocket door. There is one way that it could work at the top of our stairs. Glad you've found a workable solution.
Scott K
I had the same problem, I added 1 duct, helped some, but like was said, on warmer days, it would be cold down stairs, so I put a door at the bottom of the steps, this helped a lot. The past fall I added 1 6 foot base board heater with a thermostat. This has totally eliminated my cold issue down stairs, and I am actually saving money, because I turn the main heater down more in the house, since I dont have to worry about trying to heat the basement. I would say the electric heater added about $10-20 per month to my electric bill, but I am saving more then that on my gas bill each month, and the entire house is comfortable now.
