2x2 vs 2x3 studs

Hey guys,

I am looking for some advice on stud wall size. I am thinking about going with 2x2 studs for a 6.6x12 V front. Is this a good idea or should I just go with 2x3 studs to make it more rigid?

The guys who have wood studs how long until they start to rot if at all?

Maybe I should just go with aluminum studs and not worry about it.

I can not make up my mind...Let me know what you think.

Depends some on what you are using for siding & insulation,I used 2x3 w/sprayfoam. the 2x3 gives you room for foam expansion and makes a very ridgid wall.

As for wood rot,IMO it wood depend some on the type of heater you use, forced air or not.I have forced air and also varnished all the studs before having the insulation sprayed in.

only problem with steel studs is there will be more cold transfer from outside to inside. where as wood studs have less cold transfer. i wouldnt be supprised if u get frost lines on the inside of your house after you leave.

Our ice shack has 1x2 steel studs. We welded to main frame sideways so more room to screw sheeting to. White 1" foam board in between for insulation. Aluminum sheeting on the outside. Thin white fiberglass sheeting on the inside. There are frost lines. Doesn't hurt anything.

So, if you go steel- save $$ and go 1x2. Our shack is 6.5x15. Never any issues!

Good luck!
