Jim Uran
I recently got myself a Team Wild 3 man portable fish house package by Otter Outdoors!! I am very impressed with the design and build of these houses. What led me to get an Otter? Let’s look at their slogan, Tougher-Stronger-Smarter! I would say that covers it quite well, I’ve had a few portables over the years, and the durability and smart design of these houses is what led me towards the Otter brand of houses. Feature for feature, this house will match up with anything out there right now. I was impressed with the oversized square aluminum frame poles, and the smooth ultra-glide system will put an end to fighting frozen poles at the end of a day on the ice. The wind support poles snap in place with ease and really hold the shell on tight in the wind. Built with a 600 denier polyester shell with black out interior, and that is no exaggeration. The shell really does keep the light out, which I think is crucial for when you are hunkered over a school of shallow water bluegills, or any fish for that matter, because too much light shining down the hole can turn them off in a hurry, I’ve seen it happen before in houses that didn’t make the angler the priority. The windows appear to be durable, and functional, and the vents and storage pouch are easy to reach. It also boasts some decent head room, I’m 6’1” and it appears there is another half of a foot to spare! The cushioned bench seat with a hinged padded backrest supplies plenty of comfort and makes sitting on that hot spot for hours a lot easier. But when it’s time to go, it folds back and out of the way for quickly stowing away your gear while you are off to the next spot! This package comes with Otter’s Large Wild Sled, hands down the best “tub” I’ve ever owned. It is built with the ice fisherman in mind, with just a couple of trips under my belt in it I can honestly say this sled will last for years! With an aggressive raked leading edge it glides over the snow rather than plowing through it. The package also includes a tow hitch with a spring loaded pivoting coupler which will make towing effortless. I haven’t had to use it yet because I don’t own a snowmobile, but when late ice comes rolling in I will be towing my Wild 3 package behind my ATV. These features and more are what led me to choose Otter’s Wild 3 package! I called them directly to discuss some of the features and to ask them why I should chose Otter over the competitors. It was nice to talk to someone who actually shared my passion for the outdoors and who could offer practical and useful information! So anyone who is looking to upgrade their current shack, or anyone that is just getting into the game take a look at Otter’s Wild series packages of houses, I’m glad I did
brian6715
I have the Wild 2 man house, and it is awesome! I originally was looking at Eskimo Quikflip houses, but they do not come close to this house... and when I bought mine it was only $20 more. My best friend has an Eskimo, and the Wild blows the Eskimo out of the water! It is also fairly light and you know it will last a long time. DTro
Nice review! From my experience, Otter and Quality go hand in hand.
Northlander
I agree 100%! The Wild Series is a great house for those who dont want to spend the extra cash on a Pro Series House. Still plenty durable just like all the Otters. Im looking forward to some possible new stuff from Otter next year. When other house companies quality is going down Otters is always as good or better. Shack
I love the room in the Otter Wild series 3 Man house. It provides enough space I would like to create a remote office where I can handle the duties of a career withing the space and The Wild series 3 man shack is the best option. Going 9 to 5 out on the ice is a dream I have had, but with todays tech, reality is only an app away.
brian6715
Shack, I think you need to bring more stuff on the ice with you. Maybe a portable fish cleaning station and the equipment to make a new rod, just in case one breaks Just messing with you, you got a nice setup there! Shack
Actually I bring nothing more than I need, but in this case I was set-up for a video conference where I updated my superiors while on the ice to show them I could update them while on the ice . It is not shown but I also have a portable HP 3-in-1 setup which is very nice. The storage space in the Team Wild 3 Man with flip up bench allows for perfect organization and room for many more things than my previous portables. Like I said, TW3 is perfect setup for the ice office. Also not shown but I modded the bench seat back rest hinge stopping pin mech. to allow 3 positions instead of only two and use two of my storage container with block under them for support so the bench seat back rest actually folds backwards and as well as forwards. You can actually use the bench seat this way as a sleeping bed/cot. This is not a factory design feature but easily could be and achieved with an extra 2"x2" tubing added to the top of the back rest as the support for when the back rest if folded down backwards. Basically I just removed the factory stopping pins which are pressed into the bench back rest hinges on both sides and replaced with a locking pin. You can even have an adjustable backrest angle (have not drilled these extra holes yet) just by adding extra holes to place the pins in. Thats one other thing about the Otter sleds they are all deep enough to hall a ton of gear. Even for Shack.
newoodhntr
I needed to down size from my Otter Cabin and stopped at the local FF and was able to pick up the Wild 1 display model (last one) for $249.00. Great price and I didn't have to put it together. I do have to redo the bench seat they put it to far forward so it don't tip up.I'm very happy with my purchace. magic_minnow
so i bit on a team wild 2 (got a really good deal on the last one at FF). I assembled it last night with ease, but i happen to have about 7 leftover self tapping screws (the ones used to join the metal frame bars together). Are these just extra?? They are the smaller ones. I went over the instructions a few times and cant find any discrepancies. Help??Also, how often does one really use the wind support bars?? It seems fine without them. Thanks. Jim Uran
You should have just needed 8 self tappers, if there were extra so be it!! And I've used mine with out the wind support poles, works just fine. But they are nice to put on when it does get windy, they really hold the shell tight!! I bought the Wild 2 last month at FF and also was thrown off by the 2 different sized self-tapping screws. And yes, I had a few left over. Stopped by FF on Monday night and saw them on clearance for $199. Too bad my 14 day price adjustment period just expired by a week. That sneaky FF... Still an awesome house though! Rebel9921
I purchased a TW3 on February 3rd... and LOVE it very much, with 30 sq ft of fishable area... thats HUGE!!!Shack... Can you please post up photos of that bench hinge, for general idea of what you're talking about... I would love to do that with mine too... Of course, I had to wait for a week before I could use my TW3 as the curved bar for the bench was 1 1/2 inches too long... and Otter somehow mistakenly packed in two brackets for left side of the sled, none for the right side... They were prompt with sending the replacement... It seems like all curved bar Otter ordered or manufactured were 1 1/2 inches too long as the replacement they sent, upon closer inspection, seemingly had the 1 1/2 inches of tube steel cut out in the middle then welded back together... Those small self-tapping screws were in the package too... and from what I could deduct... I believe its to screw on the trim seal to the sled, securing it even more... as I have noticed that two or three of my trim seal would come out often... I have the whole summer, besides working on my boat and muskie fishing, to outfit the TW3 with accessories including the LED rope lights... Only flaw with this outfit is the bench seat design... You cannot flip up the seat if the shack is folded down... a minor inconvience if you ask me... as long you pack it right, you can access anything when its folded down...
