Heard Something Kinda Funny Today

So, I get a call this morning from Geek Squad on an update with a warranty repair I have going with my Toshiba. I miss it and it goes to my voice mail. I call them back and say I am returning a phone call concerning an update with my laptop in for repair. The service "agent" replies:

"I am very sorry Sir, but I can not help you because all of our computers are down and I have no clue when they will be working again. Sorry!"

Now, before anyone calls out poor customer service here, this is beyond the case. I just found it funny and was wondering to myself 'Who fixes the Geek Squads computers'? laugh

Warranty had been running out and hooked a right in on the last day several weeks back with a stress cracked in my screen bezel caused by a binding pivot/hinge. Ended up getting this Toshiba at Bestbuy and they use Geek Squad in house now. If you find you have a PC concern and have the privilege of having access to Geek Squard, their repair turn around time under warranty is at least half the time to send in to a manufacture like Toshiba. They shoot it to the central authorized repair center. Toshiba repair depot is in India some place and bet on a 2 month turn around if they do not loose it. Geek squad is about 2 weeks or less, even though they tell you 4 weeks.

Actually, Toshiba has a repair center right here in MN ( comparinc ), we have used it countless times because of the no fault and regular factory warranty sold with Toshiba laptops ( I swear some people could ruin a iron anvil ), they have a blazing fast turn around time and I can honestly say I don't think we waited more than 4 days for a laptop to return and most times had the laptop back in 2 days, UPS shipping time included.

None of the laptops they repaired were bought thru Best Buy though.

There are many places to go for support other than Geek Squad. Most of the local PC joints will have a better support team than the Geek Sqaud.

As far as to where Best Buy goes for support for their main system support? Not the Geek Squad! They will have a staff of 3rd level support folks that keep their computer systems up and running. When you call some place and they say there computers are all down, it is not the PC that they are sitting at won't boot up, it is the system than they connect to that actually has the data they use is down. Could be anything from a crashed server, to a bad switch, faulty router, or someone changed a rule in a firewall. For the most part they wouldn't even give the geeks squad the password to the router, server, firewall, or switch!!

Geeksquad is a joke. I had a buddy who went to school for Computer Science, and knew more about computers than anyone person there. They are trained to do things one way and one way only.

as if any of you have heard of their pitch they have to run this diagnostic first, and than this diagnostic before they can troubleshoot any issue! EVEN if you know the issue.

a friend of mine had a hard drive failure and I went with him to best buy (where he bought it) to make sure he wasn't getting ripped off.

I told them the issue and that I had tested the drive! they still refused to listen to me and told him they needed to run all these diagnostics which ran up to about 180$ or so. instead of going through them we got a new hard drive and I copied what I could over for him and its worked since.

as for Toshiba service if it takes that long that sucks! Dell is FAST. I called in about a repair issue with 7 days of my 3 year warranty running out. I had a box at my door the next day (overnight shipping) and they also sent it back to them over night. I recieved my computer back in less than 7 days.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
