After the kill...

What did you end up with as far as your AR? I hope you get your upper soon cause prime time is getting close. Are you asking about how to skin one out? Rugs, ped. mount, and hanging pelts all can be tube skinned. I wanted a ped mount of a big male I shot with a muzzleloader a few years ago but the hole was too big right on top of the shoulders and the neck. Thought about bleaching the skull. Keep that in mind. Rock on. IMG_1220.jpg

I usually wait until I get home to skin them - which sometimes means the beasts are froze solid. Not good! They are much, much easier to skin when still warm.

I would encourage guys to think about getting fur garments made - my partner and I got special coyote hats made by an outfit called USA Foxx out of Duluth, and they are really nice. We got the Alaskan style, and had them add a brim made out of beaver tail. Pretty darn neat - and about as warm a hat as you can get.

Jackpine,

When is primetime for coyotes and why? I have access to property down near Tillman and would like to give it a try this year. I am limited on time so to go at primetime would be helpful in upping my %age. I really only have a couple differant spots to call.

Muskie, prime time is breeding season on yotes which is usually Feb-March. If you only have a couple spots to call I would encourage you to knock on some doors and ask for permission. I have literally knocked on hundreds of doors and been turned down once, and that was while it was deer season and someone was hunting. It is not hard at all to find a place to hunt yotes, people seem to dislike them.

I got a spikes lower with daniel defense lower parts kit, and a spikes 5.56 upper (the one where the gas block doesnt stick up. I have OD grip stock and clips and will get rail covers.

If you dont mind me asking, how much does a hat cost a guy? That is exactly what i wanted to do with one.

This is going back a few years, but I remember paying $100 for the hat plus the tanning cost. If you go on their HSOforum you can download a catalog/price chart.

Nice.. I have a trooper style cap made out of muskrat fur I trapped and tanned myself. I sent it to a place in Wisconsin - this was a few years back, so I don't remember the name. I've also sent fur to a place in Montana to be tanned and they did a good job. A lot of the serious trappers hang out in the trapperman.com forum, so it's a good place to get some advice on fur handling.
