What are some volunteer opportunities?

I have 20 hours I can take of from work for volunteering with certified non-profit organizations and would like to use them to help people get out fishing.

Anyone have groups they work with that fit the bill? I have a boat but it is a little lund and not at all accessible for folks that may need an easier boat to get in.

Maybe this could be a good forum for others whose work has this type of benefit.

Thanks in advance.

Hammy,

On Sat. Feb. 5, the White Bear Lake archery team is coming out to our tournament here in Westonka (west end Lake Minnetonka). They want to come and ice fish when they are not shooting. I have someone to drill holes, but maybe another helping hand would be good too. Westonka Archery is a 501c3 if you needed documentation.

Thanks for the ideas. Mike- my little guy and I will be at the lake Johanna kids tourney that day, sorry I cant help. I met some high school archers at the sportsman show, they were all very impressive kids and really did a nice job showing the little ones how shoot.

I do some volunteer work for a great non-profit called Recycled Fish. Their mission: "Recycled Fish is the national non-profit organization of "anglers living a Lifestyle of Stewardship both on and off the water, because Our Lifestyle Runs Downstream.""

They are doing over 55 events all over the country this winter and were at 4 events this past weekend including the Brainerd Jaycees event. There are a lot of ways to help so check them out on the web (.org). If you have any questions, ask me here, or email Teeg Stouffer (executive director) at fishrecycler at the web site.

I don't know about IA, but here in Brainerd there is a "Lets go fishing with seniors" group that takes seniors out fishing or cruising on the lakes. You don't bring your own boat, they have toons for you to use. Here's the HSOforum. If it's blocked, just do a web search in Brainerd, MN. I'm thinking about doing it if I get a free afternoon.

How about take a kid fishing? In Bemidji our TKF is in early June. Usually each "guide" is paired with two youth for the day of fishing and then there is a fish fry at the state park to wrap up the day. Families are invited to attend the fish fry. Its a great way to get youth out on the water that usually would not have a chance to do so.
