Who is putting in for an Elk tag this year?

Recommended Posts

So who is planning on elk hunting this year? What weapon and where do you plan to hunt? I am planning a trip with my dad and a couple of his friends and we are applying for the first rifle season. I haven't had a bull tag in the past so maybe this will be the year. We will be hunting North of Craig.

The area North of Craig has excellent elk hunting, definately lots of them around. If you don't draw, check into some of the outfitters in the area that are in the ranching for wildlife program. Then you can hunt in mid Nov-early Dec and the elk are all in the sagebrush flats, I have never seen so many elk. Anywhere from 300-3,000 per day!

Superbee, sounds like you had a heck of a trip! I have relatives out in Craig and he has some ranch land but leases it to outfitters so we generally head out into the national forest and hunt but still great numbers and a fairly high success rate. I'd love to go back out and hunt them with my bow but this year I'm going out for rifle as my dad (72) is going to be hunting. I figure even if we don't get a shot it is still great to be spending time in the mountains with my dad grin
