Optimum temperature for keeping waxies alive?

Wax WormsCheck and remove any dead every other day at a minimum. We recommend storing your waxies at about 43-49 degrees. When fishing try to keep them about the same temp and out of the direct sun light.

Maggots,Mealworms and MousiesVery easy to keep. Refrigerate at about 33-35 degrees. In general this might be a little cooler than most people keep their home refrigerator so you may want to use another refrigerator that you can dial down a little colder. Check the bait every two to three days, pick out and throw away any dead.

This is what I use from Vados, put them next to the eggs.

Can anyone tell me what the optimum temperature is to keep my wax worms alive without turning into flies too quickly?

About 50 degrees. Waxies are Bee Moth Larva, and will not turn into flies.

Euro Larva are maggots which will turn into flies.

They're best kept about 38-40 degrees.

I put the puck of waxies on top of my freezer and cover the puck with a towel or anything to keep the room temperature from getting to the puck.

The puck with conduct the cold air from the freezer and keep the worms better than room temp! 2c

I did a lot of research online about a month ago on this topic. Almost eveything I read was between 40 and 50 degrees. I spent a couple days moving thermometers around the house and ahve a spot that hangs out at pretty consistently 46 to 48 degrees. And it's a spot where the dogs can't get to them frown (long story)

I see this question a lot. I never keep my waxies in anything other than my pocket of my Ice Armour jacket. I know that I have kept them a couple weeks that way. I never buy more than 3 dozen because the bait store is right on my way home from work and it gives me an excuse to chat with the guys in the bait shop for awhile.

I have had them survive overnight in my car just fine, with maybe a death or two. I dont mind losing any because my cichlids eat em up.

I dont buy them as often as I should. I always forget. Rereading this thread after my last post reminds me to go out and buy some after I finish my homework since I'm going out tomorrow.
