ice Augers?

I personally think that a 6" is a little small. If I was using a hand auger, well thats a different story. I do not think that you are going to have too much of an issue pulling a fish through a 6" hole. I do get a little nervous pulling 17"ers through my 8" hole sometimes. Not that they will not fit through, but I am more worried about them flailing at the top of the hole and catching an edge and releasing.

I pulled a 27in pike through a 6in hole, it should be fine, depends on how/what you fish.. It will be tight for the bigger fish, but it will be easier to carry around and drill the holes. wink

6" inch all the way then. The lakes I have been fishing lately have 18" of ice. Lot of cranking. You should challenge your buddy to a fishing contest, shotgun start. I bet you wet your line first. I also bet you have no issue getting your fish up. I would be a little worried if you had a tip-up and a big sucker minnow on the end though. Good luck, I am cheering for ya. grin

if i had to use a hand auger I would probably go with a 6" auger also since it would be easier cutting a hole.......that being said I have a power auger and I went with a 10" hole since I wanted the biggest hole to fish out of and make it easier to pull a trophy through the hole if the opportunity arose.......

6" Diameter

Circumference = 2[pi]R = 2[pi]*(3)

= 18.9

So as long as you keep the girth under 18" you'll have no problem gettin em up.

I would agree, a 6" would be the easiest to break through and still have a big enough hole to bring something up through.
