I am looking at possibly buying some property on the St Croix Flowage near Gordon, WI. I have not physically been on this water yet and was just curious what the fishing is like. I've found some conflicting reports on the species in this lake.

Is the muskie fishing good on this lake? I noticed they have been stocking muskies and sturgeon for the past few years, but curious if these populations are doing well. Also, anyone have any luck with walleyes on this lake?

Also, I noticed this lake is pretty shallow. Does it have bad weed problems in the summer?

Thanks.

Chris

Wyochris,

I guide these waters up here. Your going to want to make a note to yourself to ask these questions in the Superior, Brule, Douglas Cty forum, next time, but as far as fish in the flowage, there are plenty of them. However its a better quantity lake than quality fishery. Lots of small Largies and Smallies, blue gillz, northerns. Not known as a great walleye lake, but you may get a decent one evey now and then. As far as the musky, again, in my experience I have never got one, but I never target them. There are lots of other lakes in teh area that are better then the flowage. Including the Minong Flowage.... Gd luck

Not heard of any Muskies or Sturgeon caught on this Lake. It is a shallow Lake. Very weedy. Lots of Northerns, Largemouth Bass and Sunnies. Crappie population is good. Crappies and Sunnies are decent, not stunted. Plenty of 7-8 inch Gills. Many small Northerns, but there are some big ones. Lots of LargeMouth Bass, and they are good size. Never caught a Walleye here.
